Counseling: Adults & Families

Have you ever wondered if how you feel is 'normal'... or if you might feel better?
Have you tried other therapists in the past with no lasting results?

If so, you're in the right place!  Even if I'm still not sure what 'normal' is
I understand many of the issues that adults and families face, and I want to help.

Counseling For Adults:

When working with adults I primarily use a cognitive therapy approach for therapy.  Some of the mental health problems adults seek treatment for fall into the following categories:

  • Addictions counseling (including chemical addiction, sexual addiction, gambling etc.)
  • Anxiety (including phobias, social anxiety, anxiety attacks, OCD & PTSD)
  • Assertiveness & boundary development
  • Career counseling
  • Conflict resolution
  • Depression treatment (including general sadness & major depression)
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
  • Eating disorder treatment (including anorexia, bulimia & emotional eating)
  • Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy
  • Grief/bereavement counseling
  • IQ testing
  • Life transitions
  • Men's mental health
  • Personality/temperament exploration
  • Personality testing
  • Relationship help
  • Self-harm/Self-injury
  • Sexual abuse
  • Sexual assault (including date rape & intimate partner violence)
  • Sexuality (including disorders & orientation)
  • Sleep disorders
  • Spirituality (including Christian counseling)
  • Stress management
  • Suicidal thoughts & behaviors *
  • Trauma therapy (including PTSD treatment)
  • Women's mental health

Counseling for Families:

I really enjoy working with families and think working with multiple people can often lead to faster, and more lasting change.  When working as a family counselor I use a systems approach - which simply means bringing change in one person often will lead to ripples that will affect those who are connected together.  Family therapy also often means looking at issues such as boundaries, patterns of communication, the 'roles' people have and both written and unwritten family rules.  In my experience, families often find the work to be challenging - but also rewarding and even, at times, fun!

If you would like to talk about the specific issue(s) you, or someone you care about, is struggling with please contact me.

Overall, I believe I have a compassionate, but firm approach to Mental Health Counseling and Life Coaching.

I have helped hundreds of clients reach their goals and go on to lead lives that are marked by happiness & personal contentment.

I do not believe in therapy that lasts indefinitely but will work with you to make a plan that will work for your specific situation.
